Though Japan has developed friendly relations now with one-time foe, the United States, the American bombs from World War II are yet to desert the nation. An American bomb from WW II exploded on Wednesday at a Japanese airport, leaving a crater on the runway.
The unexploded U.S. bomb had been buried at Miyazaki Airport in southwestern Japan, which exploded causing a large crater in a taxiway and the cancellation of more than 80 flights, news reports said, quoting Japanese authorities. No one, however, has been hurt. The bomb weighed 500-pound and Japanese officials were determining what caused its sudden detonation.
Interestingly, a few days back Japan had asked the U.S. to form an Asian version of NATO as it faced one of worst threats from neighbouring China. India had criticized the thought while the U.S. had turned it down. China has so far kept silence.
